Description:

Awe-inspiring and majestic waves enveloped me as I stood among the thousands of Buddhist pilgrims and infinite red robed monks trickling in from across the countryside of Bagan to attend the Ananda Pagoda Festival. One of the year’s largest and most sacred gatherings which is held to worship and raise funds for faithful Buddhist hermits, truly enhances one’s spiritual path in Buddhism. Alms bowls brim-full of crops, soap assortments, money bouquets and a vast amount of goods are bestowed with great joy and enthusiasm, to help upkeep the monks, who are dependent on such necessities. I arrived at Ananda Pagoda before sunrise. The merchants had already laid their wares out on the mats, and in the courtyard, hundreds of monks waited in perfect silence. The air was cool and drops of rain gently sprinkled my face, broadening my horizons to a unique mystical experience.
