Hindu pilgrims in Varanasi

Description:

Kumbh Mela lasts around two months, during which 40-70 million pilgrims take part. Hindu families from across the country flock to the tent city set up just for the festival to dip in the holy ganges. It is believed that immersing in the waters of the holy rivers at this time creates moksha, a release from life, death, and incarnation. This belief drives to the river banks tens of millions of pilgrims and ascetics, often up to one hundred million over the two months of the event, to dip in the river, wash away their sins, and purify their bodies and souls.
