The Sapa area is home to five ethnic groups that differ in dress, tradition, and dialect. The largest of them, making up about half of the population in the province, is the H’mong Group, which is a subgroup of Miao people living in China. Their name means a young seedling rising from the ground and they also have subgroups that bear the Hmong name as a primary name with a supplement that makes them unique and mainly describes the type of clothing they wear
