Description:

Monastery life is comprised of many challenges, particularly for young novice monks. The initiates stay in the monastery for a retreat under the supervision of experienced monks for at least a week. The youths are not required to vow or commit to monkhood for life. In fact, they have the option to leave and return to their normal familiar lifestyles at any time. Most boys stay for a week or two while others spend several years learning Buddhist scriptures from ordained monks. Ultimately however, 1% of all beginners tend to adopt monasticism as a way of life.
