The Vietnamese incorporate worship of Gods, some of whom are imaginary characters and some of whom are real people, who have passed away and left an important legacy, with prayers they send to their private ancestral spirits. There are many rituals and prayers associated with these beliefs. Many people light lotus candle lanterns, especially on a full moon night, to guide the spirits of their ancestors coming from the afterlife. These flashlights float on the rivers in quantities and when their light goes out it is a sign that their ancestors' souls have found their way back.
