The mountainous town of Sapa is located in northwest Vietnam, near the Chinese border and is considered the center of the Lao Cai Province. Housed on the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, the livelihood of locals works mainly on processing of yellow and green rice terraces that surround them on every side. Life revolves around the rice growing cycle.

Constant process of sowing, planting, harvesting and repeating. The work is very physical, hard and tiring and most of it falls on women's shoulders. Although men also play a role mainly in plowing, with the help of the buffalo, before sowing and after harvesting, and sometimes the whole family enlists for harvesting, a scene of a bending woman carrying a baby on her back in a water-flooded rice field is a very common sight.
