Purifying wash in the holy Ganges river

Description:

During this festival, Hindus bathe in the sacred water of Holy Rivers for purification. The event is traditionally held at four different locations every three years, so that each place holds the event once every twelve years. The name of this festival consists of two words: “Kumbh”, sometimes spelled “kumbha”, which means “jug”, while “mela” is a “gathering” or “festival” – the event is therefore sometimes translated as the “Festival of the Jug”.
